Make sure you have read the cantos and verses in BOLD, below; events of missing cantos and verses are summarised for continuity.

While these are the extracts we will cover in class, you are more than welcome to use any of the missing events if you choose to write an essay on this text.

Canto I
Guyon and Prince Arthur meet Britomart, but are separated by their pursuit of a fleeing damsel. Britomart's adventures in Castle Joyous.

Canto II, verses 1-27
Britomart's story, including her vision of Artegall in Merlin's mirror and her love for him which leads to her sickness.

Canto III, verses 1-27
Britomart and her nurse Glauce visit Merlin, who knows everything, to find out what's wrong with Britomart. He tells her that it is her destiny to marry Artegall.

Canto III, missing episodes. Merlin spends a multitude of stanzas detailing the famous kings who will descend from Artegall and Britomart, ending in Gloriana, the Faerie Queen.

Canto III, verses 57-62
Britomart's decision to take up arms and seek Artegall.

Canto IIII: missing episodes.
Britomart's battle on the sea shore with Marinell; she wounds him mortally. Marinell's mother, the sea-nymph Cymoent, grieves at his mortal wound.
Prince Arthur is still pursuing the damsel; he loses her. His squire Timoent has pursued the forester who was chasing the damsel.

Canto V: missing episodes.
Arthur learns that the damsel's name is Florimell, and she loves Marinell, although he does not love her. Timoent, pursuing the forester, kills him and his two brothers, but is himself wounded. He is rescued by the damsel Belphoebe, who heals him; he falls in love with her.

Canto VI: missing episodes.
The birth of Belphoebe and her twin sister Amoret; they are raised by goddesses, Belphoebe by Diana, Amoret by Venus.

Canto VII: missing episodes.
Florimell encounters the witch and her son; he desires Florimell. Florimell flees, but is pursued by a monster created by the witch. Florimell escapes in a boat at the seashore; the monster is captured by the knight Satyrane, who is searching for Florimell. Satyrane rescues the Squire of Dames from the giantess Argante, who he pursues but cannot catch.

Canto VIII: missing episodes.
The witch makes a false Florimell for her love-sick son. The false Florimell is seen by Braggadocchio, who kills the witch's son and professes love to the image. Another knight threatens Braggadocchio, who runs away; the victor possesses the false Florimell. The real Florimell, meanwhile, is at sea in a boat with an aged fisherman, who desires her and tries to rape her. She is rescued by Proteus, the sea-god, who beats the fisherman and takes Florimell to his undersea home. He both woos and threatens her, but she refuses him, and he imprisons her. The knights Satyrane and Paridell meet, and Satyrane tells Paridell that Florimell is dead. They approach a castle, but are refused admittance.

Canto IX, missing episodes
The castle of Malbecco and Hellenore. Britomart jousts with Paridell; Satyrane and Hellenore exchange lustful glances.

Paridell speaks of Troy.

Canto X: missing episodes.
Britomart leaves Malbecco's house; Paridell stays behind. He seduces Hellenore and they flee with Malbecco's treasure, having set fire to his castle. Malbecco goes in search of Hellenore; he meets Braggadocchio and his servant Trompart. Braggadocchio says he will rescue Hellenore, and the three travel onward, although Braggadocchio is primarily interested in Malbecco's treasure. Paridell has abandoned Hellenore, who ends up with a group of Satyrs, whose whore she becomes. Malbecco finds her and tries to persuade her to leave the Satyrs, but fails. Trompart has meanwhile stolen the remainder of Malbecco's treasure, and Malbecco ends up a hermit in a cave on the sea shore.

Canto XI and XII
Bitomart rescues Amoret from the house of Busyrane.
