Lectures in ELL2015S, Romance to Realism, 2010

The lectures offer several differing approaches to Shelley's text: as Gothic novel, as woman's text, and as science fiction novel. I also pay some attention to the novel's relationship with Romanticism, its exploration of the Promethean myth, and to issues of identity bound up in the novel's interest in Milton's Paradise Lost.
